Finding a new jacket that fits and flatters your full-figure curves can be a challenge. You want to find one that you like and that will last you a few seasons as they can be costly. By using the following tips on finding the right jacket for your shape you will be sure to find the perfect jacket that will flatter all the right curves and make you feel great!

  • Do try to find plus size jackets which are adjustable in the waist:  Whether you prefer plus size jackets which consist of a belt, a waist strap or buckle is completely up to you. The important thing is that you are able to adjust the fit so that you are comfortable and confident.
  •

  • Don’t choose a “puffy” or down-filled style: These are always a popular style in the winter months however they are not the most flattering for curvy women. When searching for plus size jackets consider other fabrics and fits such as a wool pea-coat or even a longer, tweed dress trench.
  •

  • Don’t shy away from color: There is no unwritten rule that states that plus size jackets have to be black or grey. If you are looking for something a bit different this year consider purchasing a red wool overcoat, or even a sleek blue rain jacket. Remember, color is what brings an outfit to life and it is also what allows you to express yourself and your own unique style!
  •

  • Do match your plus size jackets with other accessories: Have fun with handbags, shoes, scarves and even mitts! Your accessories don’t have to be drab in order to be functional. Have a look at some speciality boutiques and invest in some designer or vintage accessories. It will make heading outside a lot more fun!
  •

  • Don’t purchase a coat which is too long: Plus size jackets which are too long can make a curvy figure appear frumpy and box-like. When choosing your coat make sure that it is either long enough to cover your backside and fall just before the knee or is short enough to be cropped right in the middle of the hip.
  •

  • Do buy the best you can afford: Not all plus size jackets are created equal. Before heading the checkout make sure you have a look at the materials used to manufacture your coat of choice. If it needs extra care such as dry cleaning or hand washing you may want to consider the extra time and cost. If it appears to only use synthetic materials then you may want to think about its durability and whether you want a jacket which lasts a single season or more.
  •

  • Don’t forget about comfort: Purchasing plus size jackets is the same as buying any other type of clothing, comfort is a must. When trying on different styles make sure to sit, walk and lift your arms to make sure that your movement is not restricted.
